The Taylor House
Taylor Street Guest House was originally purchased and lived in by an AMSP partner and has been renovated twice. The decorating theme for this house was borrowed from two sources: the nearby Philadelphia Museum of Art which inspired the rich gold and navy tones and from whose gift shop we purchased the Degas, Tanner, and Renoir prints. Secondly, a trip to the thrift shop of a monastery in New York State’s Hudson River Valley provided the large refectory table, the pew and the fireplace façade in the living room, and the chest of drawers in the bedroom. The tile facing of the stairs was inspired by the magnificent tile work we saw on a recent trip to Portugal. Closer to home, flea markets and yard sales yielded the kitchen chairs, sofa, rocker, and the vanity table. The carnival glass punchbowl and cups are reproductions but the carnival glass dish in the bedroom came from one of our grandmothers. Echoing the monastic theme, the small walled-in yard offers a place for fresh air and quiet reflection.
