The Meredith House
Meredith Street Guest House was the first AMSP renovation. We decorated to highlight nearby Lancaster County, home of Pennsylvania’s Amish community. Usually called "Pennsylvania Dutch Country", the area is famous for its farms, food, and crafts. We chose two handmade quilts to set the tone and colors (blue and yellow) for the house. Crown moldings and chair-rails were added and painted in companion colors to add to the homespun, traditional feel. The dining room table is a double pedestal oak work table which was probably most often used in its open position. The Hoosier cabinet complete with original racks and working flour sifter, the handmade organ, and the split log coffee table fit in with our country theme. In the kitchen, the exposed brick wall combined with natural oak cabinets and tile in neutral tones give a farmhouse feel to the space. The upstairs den is more functionally modern with its computer desk and futon but the bedroom remains traditional with a cherry bedroom set from the 1930’s.
